Nadine O'Mahony

Nadine is a writer/director of Irish and Jamaican origin who makes sharp, funny, and deeply human films about misfits searching for connection. Nadine is a member of BAFTA Connect, CineSisters and an Associate Member of Directors UK. She was selected for the BFI Midlands Directors Lab 2024.

Her teleplay VIDEO NASTY was longlisted for the Funny Women Awards (Best Comedy Writing) and shortlisted for the BBC Comedy Collective (top 5%). She wrote and directed the BFI funded short RUSHED, which won Best Breakout at the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival and was selected for the BAFTA qualifying Flatpack Film Festival. In 2025, she was awarded BFI Early Development Funding for her debut feature Samefood. It was then comissioned by Vicarious productions in 2026.

She has shadowing experience on BBC Boarders, ITV Grantchester and BBC Doctors. In her spare time she is a programmer for community cinema and filmmaker collective Screen B14 which recently appeared on The One Show to celebrate 100 years of community cinema. She is repped by Powerhouse Talent Management.

Meet-Cute will have its world premiere screening at @worcesterfilmfestival this September and to celebrate we thought we'd share the new trailer!

💕Meet-Cute is a rapid-fire rom-com for the anxious, nerdy and neurodiverse. Jaded by endless dates that go nowhere with people too afraid to put their real personality out there, Mark and Mia decide to lay it all on the line, their pet peeves, red flags and their sexual hard nos!💕

Now @bifa_film qualifying, Worcester has grown into one of the Midlands premiere film festivals, a date not to be missed on any filmmakers calendar. With an ever fantastic selection of films and genuinely insightful workshops and networking sessions I cannot recommend it highly enough!

💕I want to give a big shout out to our Meet-Cute art dept - Production Designer @sherriegram and Art Director @lazyninja666 who designed and created our props, graphics and storyboards from scratch (without any generative AI.)💕

From driving licences to year books, posters to pin badges, they were designed by our art department. They even had a hand in our graphics and costume choices.

The handmade feel of our film was an intentional and deliberate choice which gives a sense of texture and authenticity that can't be faked. It is a huge part of what makes our film unique.

Sherrie worked miracles with our tiny budget often making props from scratch and Simmy's input from the storyboards she created to the graphics she designed really shaped the aesthetic of our film.

In 2022 I wrote and directed Rushed, inspired by the news stories I was reading at the time and the films of Michaelangelo Antonioni. I did not realise that the themes of the film would sadly be more relevant now than when I made it.

Having completed its festival run the film is now available to watch on YouTube.

I nearly didn't ask for a pitch spot at Reel Brum because I was worried I'd left it too late.

I nearly didn't go because I had college the next morning and I was worried no-one would show because of the rain.

I nearly didn't do my pitch because my friend had bought me a pint of lemonade and I was in the bathroom right before my slot was up! 😅

But I did ask and I did go and I did run on stage just as my name was being called and we did reach our initial festival budget target of 💕£500!💕

Big shout out to Lee Nabbs, Cassie Smyth and Simon Brew for their support!

In the blind panic of my improvised speech I don't remember what I said (apart from "we're poor but we're ambitious" my new family motto) but it must've been OK because I got some laughs, more importantly some donations and one woman even told me I was tenacious afterwards!

So we're stretching our goal to £750, I didn't think we would make it to £500 but if there's one thing I've learnt - if you don't ask you don't get.
