What an honour it was to accept the award for Best Breakout Film for Rushed at the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival!
This year marked the 75th anniversary of Windrush, the ship that bought so many people from the Caribbean by invitation of the British government. My maternal grandparents both came here from Jamaica, to help rebuild the country after the devastation of WW II. My nanny Mernel passed away this year so I was sure to thank her in my speech. I know she would be very proud.

A little piece of this award belongs to every one of our talented cast and crew members and we could not have made the film without funding from the BFI Network and National Lottery. I am also very grateful to Migrant Voice who put us in touch with two remarkable young women Shantel & Anniska who graciously shared their experiences of immigration with us.
I'd like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Windrush Film Festival organisation, this award means so much, its essential that stories like these are told and heard!
